Mass Shootings in America Thread

Started by Silent Master264 pages

Yes, some people kneejerk and start buying guns when these things happen. but other people also kneejerk and start calling for bans. I'm fairly sure that it wouldn't be that hard to find exmples of both sides doing this for just about every mass shooting we've had.

At least one person in this thread has stated they wanted AR-15 style rifles banned in the last couple of days. IIRC people also called for bans "assualt rifles" and bump stocks after LV.

Did you want me to tell you what they did? Or are you asking me this question knowing what they did, but also knowing they didn't outright ban guns?

I don't know specifics really. I know something about they offered to buy guns from the public, not much else. Don't know what their current gun laws are.

I think it was Neph who said ban all guns.

Not attacking him, I just think it was him, but maybe it was someone else.

Lol oh no Rob, that's quite vague. Do you know specifically how they accomplished it? Or do you just know a general outline?

It wasn't. A new PM got support from all sides; state and local governments and the law was passed. Australia wanted it and it passed. It was more popular than unpopular with Australians.

edit: What exactly do you want to hear? How the voting went down vote for vote? Cos I don't know what

Probably.

Keep in mind Neph is from the UK though where they do have a flat ban on all guns, though.

Possibly, can't remember.

IIRC, Firefly however did saying something about banning AR-15's, but when I pointed out that semi-auto handguns existed. he changed his argument to include those. not sure on what his views on single shot weapons are.

Amusingly, the only Americans I know who actually are in favor of very very strict/complete gun bans are my conservative parents who both voted for Trump. My mom especially is in favor of very heavy handed gun control, probably more than I am. And my Dad, who is a veteran, mind you, would be a bit more lenient about it but still much more strict than most.

Do you know any specifics of their positions?

Let's see.

Assault weapons are not an actual thing

Yes they are

Mass shootings are on a decline

No they're not

The US does not have the most mass shootings in the world

Outwith war ravaged countries yes it does

The AR-15 is not a military weapon

Its a varient of a rifle sold to and used by numerous militaries.

Stricter US gun control laws haven't statistically reduced crime.

The decade before the 1994 federal assault weapons ban was introduced and the decade after it lapsed both had higher rates of mass shootings involving weapons covered in the ban.

The US doesn't have the highest violent crime rate out of industrialised nations

What does consider an industrialised nation? Murder rates per 100,000 people comparable "industrialised" nations

US. 4.88
Canada :1.68
China. 0.74
Japan. 0.31
South Korea. 0.74
Denmark 0.99
Iceland. 0.91
Ireland 0.64
Norway 0.56
Sweden. 1.15
UK.0.92
Italy. 0.78
Greece 0.85
Spain 0.66
Portugal 0.99
Austria 0.51
France 1.58
Germany 0.85
The Netherlands 0.61
Switzerland 0.69
Australia 0.98
New Zealand 0.91

Only Russia as an industrialised nation has a higher murder rate than the US

Oh. And I'm pretty sure God never wrote the US constitution or mentioned stuff in the bible about owning guns.

Blames others for making mass killings political while doing exactly that. Blames others for grandstanding while doing exactly that. Blames others for virtue signalling while doing exactly that.

Bizarre video. Even more bizarre that people take him seriously.

They more or less had a mandatory gun confiscation. At least for certain guns after they deemed them illegal.

So, deeming guns illegal and then requiring they be turned in. Obozo praised it. Someone explain, in a way that makes sense, why this would be a huge stretch for a pro gun person to worry about, when they see Obozo praise it?

^ See Surt, told you Crowder doesn't know thing one about guns. Do better for yourself.

Glad to see we're addressing the social decay in this country 🙂

Well he's also in the UK dealing with the migrant crisis, and serious issues with immigration that are beyond the point of comparison with the US... and he's said he wants unlimited immigration lmfao

He didn't prove him wrong lol, nice try.

Whatever you need to tell yourself to cope with Crowder flopping again.

Yes, I do. I've spoken to them at length numerous times about it.

My mom believes that the AR-15 should be outright banned, she believes every gun sale should be proceeded by a mental health check, and if you fail, you don't get a gun, and if anyone in your family has a mental health issue, then you should not own a gun (I'm with her on this, I believe this would be the most effective way to curb these mass shootings.) She also believes that if you have any subversively violent images on your social media pages, then that should disqualify you from being able to own a gun. You should have to wait several weeks from when you want to buy a gun to when you actually receive it, and that there should be very intense background checks for every gun purchase.

My dad, I know a bit less about on the issue, I believe he is also in favor of AR-15 bans, and he also thinks that you should not be able to buy guns until you are older (what age, I'm not sure, over 21, though). He is in favor of background checks and mental health checks.

I see you're still coping from when you said you knew more about guns than Crowder and then demonstrated the opposite. It's okay.

Sure, when Obama was President. He's not president anymore.

Were the new Australian gun laws effective?
