Spike pulled something similar when Dru left him. He said it himself, he's loves *****. Take Buffy out of the equation and he never would have tried getting his soul back.

Angel/Buffy we’re one of the many great shows from the late 90’s to the early 00’s. And that’s why people still like them so much.
