I much as I like Cameron, his two biggest franchises are rip offs.He was sued for Terminator, and I believe he ended up losing. It seems Terminator was ripped off from an old episode of the Twilight Zone, or short story.
Where as Avatar, do i like it was simply Pocahontas in space.
The guy who sued was Harlan Ellison. There was an Outer Limits episode based on his short story. Ellison ended up getting a credit on "Terminator".
Fun fact: He also wrote the Star Trek episode "City On The Edge Of Forever".

Could’ve sworn it was Twilight Zone. Thanks for the clearing up though.
Cameron hated the author though. I was like dude, you ripped off his shit, the least you could do is pay him. Kinda reminds me with Lucas Vs the original Vader author. Till this day, he’s yet to be payed some of his money from ROTJ.
Kevin Feige says how with every film since day 1, they start with a white board and a stack of comics:
What a Legend.
