I actually like the idea just because we've never seen Joker have an actual character arc into who he is. There's almost never an origin (outside of being comedian who gets in with criminals and falls into a vat of waste, which this looks to adapt), so this could be interesting.
It actually looks pretty good. I'm shocked.
I'm in the same boat as many who never had any interest in a Joker standalone but I like Phoenix enough as an actor to give this a shot.
EDIT: I'm good with the Norman Bates angle with his mom. I didn't expect Joker to have a normal relationship with his family after all, and her being sexually abusive but loving is more drastic and weird than the usual abusive household take for psychos.
And disregard the stuff about Batman. Unless there's a timeskip, best we'll get is Joker shooting his parents if they go that 1989 angle.
The trailer is really blowing up on social media. Even getting some love from the Marvel peeps.
