At the end of the day it comes down to this: sane people could have used this and just pointed out if it's okay to deny gays a cake this should be okay as well. Buuuut they couldn't do that, they had to take it a step further and actually applaud the decision to boot her. It was certainly possible for them to come out of this not looking like hypocrites, but for whatever reason they chose not to do so. They suffer from a new disease: turd.
