It's possible Palpatine could try to yank the wand away before he can use it. Voldemort in the movies wasn't as quick as he was in the books.

This match has been done in here three other times at least; Palpatine wins everytime when the screen feats are laid out.

Not to mention his Lightsaber skills.

You're acting like he's bad at planning. Acting like he achieved immortality, knew it required an outside party to bring him back to life if he died, and then never really told any of his followers about it or what to do if he died.
