I don't think Thor's lightning powers will help him much against Thanos. How we see it being utilised is powering up punches and some type of subconscious protection. The only type of lightning attack, that I think, will harm Thanos is a direct bolt of lightning, just like the one with Hela, but that one took a while to charge. I'm certain seasoned fighter like Thanos will see that move coming from a mile away. Other than that, I'd actually tip martial skills in fighting on the side of Thanos; seeing how he easily outfought - not overpowered - outfought the Hulk. I can also see Thor outfighting the Hulk but not as easily as Thanos did. Plus we saw how easily Thanos can tank a cheap shot from Thor.
