Yep, Dems really had no real shot at the Senate, this map was ridiculously favorable for the gop, at this point the dems just need to halt the bleeding for potential gains in 2020, which is more favorable to them.

Still, Trump's agenda is largely DOA now, and there is now checks and balances upon his presidency, he'll have to adjust to avoid being a lame duck. Also this provides protections for Mueller, for if Trump were to fire Mueller, the Democratic house could simply rehire him and he could continue his investigation until completion.

On the flip side, with the GOP expanding their majority in the Senate they will have an easier time appointing judges and what not.

And impeachment goes through the senate if I remember correctly...

Yes. House could impeach but it won't really do anything without the Senate, it'll more or less be like Clinton, the house impeached him but he remained president. More or less just symbolic.

Also it'll be interesting to see if Pelosi is actually able to gain the speakership, there are a lot of the new democratic congress members who have said they won't vote for her.

And I'm guessing if Dems try to subpoena folk and Repubs resist it could end up in the supreme courts...which Republicans control lol.

Your response acts like I'm oblivious to this, I am not. Do better next time.
Wrong, it acts like you're being a whiny ***** with a sore ass, which you are.

"The dems will be obstructionist because they're butthurt about 2016" is a retarded sour grapes statement. It is the job of the opposition party to oppose.

Best we can hope for how is that the people will finally see how NPC SJW STD the Left Really are and will get them selves voted out of office entirely next time.

Sadly the U.S People are being dumbed down by the Horrible Left now.. They are truly poisoning everything they touch.

No, it's a factual statement. Opposition is not obstruction. Thanks for playing.

Yeah I don't really know how any of that stuff works. I did hear something earlier that implied that the powers of House investigations are pretty explicitly spelled out in the constitution. If so, the supreme court wouldn't help the gop much there, unless they explicitly ignore the constitution.

Also we'll likely see Trump's long talked about tax returns now.

Nice result, I look forward to seeing this admin implode over the next few years before spluttering out in 2020. Sad but unsurprising to see the Little Donnie and his supporters in denial about the outcome.

Almost reminds me of people crying and screaming "not my president".

Reminds me of how the British Government Lied to its people and went against their votes in the whole Brexit deal.

Corruption is on the Rise. Thanks Democrats.

I can't help noticing that it seems any democrat in red states that voted against Kavanaugh lost...while Joe Manchin held on lol.

Funny how that works out.

Really, you don't remember all those people that went around bragging about how Hillary won the popular vote?

That is what the British People should have done to their elected Officials. I quite agree on that.

Beni going full cringe... Now that Dems have won the House, they'll stall the President with infinite investigations and blame the lack of results on the GOP. From here on out the framing is crucial, as the next election is basically going to be determined by who gets the blame for the inevitable stagnation. Thankfully, no one is better at deflection and redirection than Donald Trump.

If I were Trump I would not be filled with confidence for 2020 because of these results. GOP lost tonight in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennylvania, which Trump won in 2016. If everything else about the electoral map stays the same, and he loses those three states, he will lose the presidency.

I'm still somewhat confident because the Dem's lack any decent Candidate to take him on. Trump really goes hard in debates and he's an absolute workhorse on the Campaign trail, so expect things to pick up as soon as 2020 comes around. Of course there's no guarantee, but the only candidates who could've threatened him (Bernie and Biden) are almost in a coffin, so it's looking good for now.

Bernie and Biden are only a few years older than Trump and in much better shape, and it sounds like they'll both run.

As is often the case, though, I think the person who ends up with the nomination may be someone who we don't see coming, like with Obama in 2008 and Trump in 2016. We'll see.

This election tonight shows one major thing. Trump is still very very popular in deep red states, and his popularity seems to be waning in other areas that were not long ago reliably red.
