That was my initial thought but he also wanted Anakin to come to the dark side Soni feel like he was feigning as well
i thought of that too, maybe the emperor's plan to revive was ready and that when/if he dies there against mace then its still fine coz anakin will go to the dark side.

Originally posted by Sin I AMIn the director's commentary for RotS, Lucas stated that Mace beat/overpowered Palpatine during their duel, and further stated that Palpatine only began feigning weakness after Anakin entered the room(which was after he'd been disarmed.) There are also a few sources implying that Mace could have potentially beaten him, etc.
Question for the Star Wars gurus ..if Anakin hadn't interfered how well do you think Mace would have done?
So I think you could argue that Mace may have been the better duelist in that moment... But Palpatine was obviously far stronger in the Force.

Strangely enough, what with Shatter point etc, Mace is prob the more combat orientated of the two. Sidious had lightning, true, but Yoda and Kenobi showed a competent Jedi Master could deal with that.

wouldnt that showing also put mace above your beloved vader considering how easily sidious owned vader in the comics? 😈
Palpatine did own Vader effortlessly in Pak's run, but that was during the ESB-era... Some 20+ years after RotS. And it has been made abundantly clear that Palpatine spent that entire time further increasing his personal power by hoarding any and all Jedi/Sith knowledge he could get his hands on. IOW, ESB Palpatine was far more powerful than RotS Palpatine, and would likely dominate Mace with even less effort than he dominated Vader.

Like he owned Vader in ROTJ?
