lol that's sad for surfer

Sad for Mephisto, too.

Should've called Lockjaw in to help.

The impressive part about the fight against Mephisto was that the Surfer was able to resist the Time Gem's influence.

Talking about AFTER Hulk palmed his blast and punched him through some rubble? Also, third page, seems like Thanos stopped the spell.

Lol.

I agree.

That said, I found the showing ridiculous. By this metric, someone like Galactus should logically be able to no-sell the time gem all together. Shouldn't work like that, but here we are...

The Time Gem, by itself, isn't that powerful. It's only in unison that the Infinity Gems become inexorable.

Surfer can also resist the Mind Gem, and break free of its influence.

The time gem was quite powerful back when Rune used it, but that was a long time ago. Apparently the gems have been watered down quite a bit since... Or the Rune showing was just an outlier. /shrug

I wasn't super surpised by the feat but I understand why some might raise an eyebrow over it. There are some possible factors I'd like to point out to explain the feat, ala, Marvel No-Prize style:

Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic does give him the ability to fight against chronal manipulation. More than that, Silver Surfer was dealing w/ temporal energies throughout the series and arguably became more acclimated to manipulating it.

For instance, Surfer absorbed the Time Gem's temporal energies Mephisto unleashed on Genis-Vell. Future Galactus ejected Surfer from time and space with a blast of temporal energy. Surfer ended up teleporting himself directly into Mephisto's realm.

Mephisto also might not be proficient with the Time Gem. Something which nearly every Time Gem bearer can be accused of: Gardener, Gamora, Maxam, etc. With the exception of, I guess, Rune??? Also, Thanos temporarily turned Runner into an infant. But that was by design to give the Collector his due.

Anyway, in conclusion, Silver Surfer resisted the Time Gem because Galan007 smells like butt. 👆

Jane vs Odin was impressive because of the distances crossed, nothing else. This fight is already comparable because it did the same thing in the preview, you could even argue that it's more impressive since the fight extended all the way to Pluto.

- Kneel Before Zod #1

Even if they didn't go to Pluto, the distance covered is far more impressive. Jane Thor confronted Odin on Asgardia. IIRC, Asgardia was in orbit around Saturn at the time. So they bounced from Saturn to Jupiter distance-wise.

But Jane Thor actively fought Odin while they were bouncing around the moons. She didn't just get carried the entire way. She summoned a planet-sized superstorm, even. Fight didn't even seem close to ending as Odin relented once he sensed that Freya had been backstabbed.

Anyway, like you and others have pointed out, the Bizarro fight isn't even out yet.

I have to catch up with X-Men, but have they revealed more about the "child of the sun"/"phoenix blade" part of this timeline yet?

Following recent updates its looking like this will get addressed in Rise of the powers of X or March's X-men Forever.

As Astner touched on it was established in the classic IG days that the gems alone operate at a reduced power level. It is only in unison as a circuit that they reach top tier power.

I think it was said that in a circuit the Power Gem acts as an energy reservoir amping up the others. I'll have to look for said scene.

But then again the gems did undergo a revision post Secret Wars so who knows what the situation is now.

He most definitely did.

Don't tell me it was already ignored? 😂

He uses it in the latest Batman. Shoots gas now and he says how it gives him more offensive options.

Only a matter of time before he regenerates it...

He probably has one in his utility belt.

The way they've been writing Batman, him firing gas out of his fingertips isn't even that out there (remember his cowl's ear tips being fired out as darts?)
