Well that's super unexpected news, but we haven't had a Marvel/DC crossover in like 30 years so I'm here for it.
I wonder who the writers will be, and what characters will be focused on? Obviously it's going to be the big name heroes and villains, but not much of a story can happen in 2 issues. 😕
I also wonder if this will be canon at all?

So just two crossovers, eh(one published by each company)? Interesting. It seems they are ahead of Manhattan's schedule...
mmm
I mean, 5G was a thing back then, albeit it later got cancelled and these ideas became Future State. I wonder if this is also the case here

jla vs avengers was canon for dc
dc vs marvel was fan voted but it was mentioned in marvel stories later on, so sorta canon for marvel

After examining DC for a while, Maker concludes that it is the ideal candidate for him to reshape into the perfect reality. Issue #1 ends as Maker and his Children of Tomorrow begin prepping for all-out war ------> Morrison responds with an issue where Nix Uotan senses this imminent invasion, and assembles/activates Hypertime's strongest 'antibodies'(ie. Superman and the lot) as a countermeasure. Issue #2 ends with the antibodies collectively prepping to fight the threat(like cosmic chemotherapy.)

These issues could act as a prelude to the main crossover event that follows: the prophesied "Secret Crisis".
*boom* instant classic. 👆
And since he'd be older and more evolved at this point, Access could also be a key player in this crossover, serving the same basic function as Metron: ie. he just sits back and observes everything that happens on both sides/companies, providing subtle(but helpful) in-universe nudges to characters here and there... Or they go the generic "power-source" route with Access, and just have him be the [unwilling] battery powering Maker's cross-company tech or w/e. Either way, I'd really like to see Access in this.

It actually makes me wonder...did Geoff just randomly throw stuff around there and it just happened, or did Geoff actually have some insider's news for future plans(even though it wouldn't be very accurate)I mean, 5G was a thing back then, albeit it later got cancelled and these ideas became Future State. Johns was really high-up on DC's totem pole, so he would've undoubtedly known if a inter-company crossover was likely to happen down the road. The specific dates he used in Doomsday Clock may have been completely random, but the concepts themselves could very well be rooted in *something* factual. /shrug

And I meant to ask this before, but are Kirkman's energon books worth jumping into? I've seen pretty positive reviews about it, so I was thinking about giving at least Void Rivals a try.
That said, I recently caught up with all the Energon Universe stuff myself(there's really not a whole lot to get through at this point.)
The EU currently has 3 ongoings:
-G.I. Joe(4 issues, atm.)
-Transformers(17 issues, atm.)
-Void Rivals(16 issues, atm.)
Along with a few separate Joe-related minis:
-Cobra Commander
-Destro
-Duke
-Scarlett
It has all been very enjoyable so far, imo. What I appreciate most about this imprint is that you don't really need to go in with much(if any) preexisting knowledge about the characters and whatnot. The EU is its own thing --a near-complete overhaul of these franchises-- so you just kind of learn what you need to know as the story naturally develops. Aside from that, while every book obviously takes place within the same universe, one title is still not "required reading" for the others. IOW, you don't also have to read Transformers just to understand what's going on in Void Rivals(and vice versa.) The Joe minis are a little more important because they flesh-out the characters quite a bit, but they still aren't a strict prerequisite before you can dive into the Joe ongoing -- but I will say that if you end up enjoying Void Rivals, you'll definitely want to read the other titles.
...And on the Joe side of things: I'm honestly shocked that Snake Eyes hasn't even been teased yet(especially since Storm Shadow and the Arashikage have already been introduced.) That is an insane level of restraint by the writer, considering his status as the most popular character in the franchise... But I'm sure when Snake Eyes inevitably does debut in the EU, it'll be something to see.
