Didn’t they do something like that in the war of the supermen? All those kryptonians ion space started to suffocate?
Or when the adult supermen were fighting superboy prime on krypton and they lost their power right away. while there are instances that superman still had his energy in reserve and loses his powers after depleting them. I guess it goes from writer to writer.

But nowhere was that ever hinted at.

A 5D Imp(who can casually do whatever the f*ck they want to reality) made the red sun to explicitly depower Superman instantaneously.

I don't see the problem, tbh. /shrug

In a previous iteration of the mind control fighting, Superman plowed through red sun, kryptonite, mecha robot and Doomsday virus, all used by Batman, in one page.

red hood and the outlaws v1 and v2 are both amazing

now they gonna use him as a stepping stone just for joker...
