Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Discussion Thread

Yeah, I'll be surprised if we actually see Palpatine(as we know him) in the flesh. I'm thinking the most we'll get is a brief backstory on how he survived after being killed. The rest will just be his spirit/essence body-hopping, and some VA work from Ian.

Spoiler:
Matt Smith is supposedly playing a dark side acolyte/knight of ren that allows Palpatine to possess his body

So hilariously sad, but

Spoiler:
LF basically said that Dark Rey was a vision on their website. They tried to revise it, but too late it's already out there. Not surprising but the fact that they did this is just hilarious.

Okay... So we aint using spoilers in this thread. I will probably sign out then.

Oh, whoops...I guess, it was really late. Galan can you fix the post? I hate this time limit edit thing.

Done. 👆

Yes, spoiler tags should be used if any legitimate leaks/spoilers surface.

I don't want to ruin the plot for those who might actually still be interested in this.

Sorry about that. You can fix mine too if you want

Nah, what you posted is still just unconfirmed rumors to my knowledge(even though it will most likely end up being the case.) No need to spoiler tag rumors.

...Now if the rumors end up being confirmed legit, then yeah.

It's not a rumor; it's an unconfirmed leak. Leaks, confirmed or not, should be spoilered IMO. For example, the entirety of TFA was spoiled through unconfirmed leaks.

Yeah, I don't disagree with that at all. 👆

Alrite cool.

Not exactly hyped for this but the only bit of entertainment I might get is going in and finding out how they use Palpatine.

Guess I just wasn't paying much attention when I originally watched the trailer, but I just realized that the Star Destroyers shown are regular ISDs from the Empire, and not the newer Resurgent-class Star Destroyers from the First Order:

Makes me wonder if the First Order itself has just been one giant red herring that Palpatine threw at the New Republic in order to distract them from the 'real' threat(a reborn Empire)..?

Unless those ISDs have been significantly upgraded, I'm pretty sure the FO ships have them outclassed. Unless it's going for overwhelming numbers. Which I guess from the picture makes sense. If they aren't going for that and the ISDs aren't upgraded....well I guess we're throwing out the rulebook here and 30 years means nothing.

...Still though, this is sounding like a poor version of Dark Empire.

Yeah, I just don't understand it.

Where did all of these ISDs come from? They're presumably all fully staffed as well, so where did all that extra manpower come from? I'm sure there'll be another 'super-weapon' as well... Where did that come from? etc.

At least it was stated that the New Republic knew of the First Order prior to the events of TFA, but chose not to engage them because they had(at that point) remained in the Unknown Regions... But if this actually ends up being a completely separate faction of Palpatine zealots, how were they able to remain under the radar all this time?

And most importantly: if this film is supposed to definitively conclude the Skywalker saga, then how in the hell are the ENTIRE First Order(which is massive), this seemingly separate Palpatine faction(which also appears massive), AND Palpatine himself all going to be destroyed?

How can they possibly wrap-up this saga with no 'bad guys' surviving, when even after the events of RotJ, an abundance of Imperials still remained...

Dunno... I have a lot of questions, and have serious doubts that they'll be cohesively answered. ermm

Probably not, given JJs thing with mystery boxes. I can't see all of this wrapping up with any sort of sense if this is suppose to tie this whole....trilogy...together.

Here's JJ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZpIog7e-R4 😛

Also there's no doubt gonna be a superweapon, given Palps apparently has an arsenal of them.

Im willing to bet money there will be one.

But would be a nice surprise if they dont go there.

I mean that's what according to the apparent leaks are saying. /Shrug

Sooo...we'll find out I guess. I honestly wouldn't put it passed em, so as to give some huge finale that ends up wiping out all the baddies...aw damn, I think I just figured out the ending. 😛

There definitely is some sort of superweapon. In the trailer it showed a red beam that looked like the Starkiller blast but smaller. I could see all those imperial star destroyers having some sort of death star or starkiller tech on them

I've got it...

The swarm of ISDs we see in the preview are actually part of a singular weapon system that links together and fires a super-powerful, world-killing beam... But if that system is mucked with or gets any feedback, all the ships connected to it are destroyed.

*Boom*, that's how everything gets wiped out. 👆
