I just looked. Interesting study but I get the impression the people there are talking about things other than supporting Trump. But I dunno. I think people who are going to deny supporting trump to a pollster would either say something like you suggested, or say they’re undecided rather than say they’re voting for Biden. That seems to be what happened in 2016. People who already decided on Trump didn’t say so much that they were voting for Clinton but that they were undecided. Hence why there were so many undecideds in those polls.

I doubt Trump would truly show up for Rogan either, but he knew damn well Biden never will and so he jumped on it and said he would. Now if Biden says no he looks like a coward. He could try to call Trump's bluff, but see there is the chance Trump isn't bluffing and Biden would have to show up and it would be a disaster. So risk vs reward. Probably better to be thought of as a coward than as someone who should be eating pudding in a nursing home.
