Yeah the "well he's correct in context" doesn't work here because nobody was saying "Well these literacy programs are figments of Bernie's imagination". What is being said is it probably isn't best for a guy who wants to be president to take a "lets look on the bright side" attitude when it comes to communist regimes. And most people defending this wouldn't do the same if Trump had begun talking about good things nazis did, though to be fair DDM probably would because he tends to be consistent.
