WW's quality, or lack thereof, had nothing to do with them releasing it on HBO Max. After all, they are releasing all of their blockbusters on it next year.

Are any of them potential billion dollar movies? Because a good WW sequel was. A crappy one likely not.

And releasing next year when the vaccine has been rolled out is very different to doing that now when most theatres are shut around the world.

No clue. But I feel this argument is irrelevant as WB is not picking and choosing but releasing all of their blockbusters.

What do you mean? If anything, releasing it simultaneously on HBO Max despite theaters being open makes less sense from a purely box office perspective and shows how hard the push for HBO subscribers is.

While I didn't hate the movie or think it was the worst of the DCEU, its a tie between Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey IMO, this review was still pretty funny

YouTube video

I enjoyed it. Not perfect, but not anywhere near Captain Marvel awful;
Captain Marvel is my personal benchmark for crappy big budget superhero movies.

Huh? Obviously those films will make more in theatres when theyre actually open. We dont even have HBO Max outside the U.S.

Wonder Womans release might as well have been an HBO exclusive.

Down to 65% on RT.

Might just end up being Rotten.

And? I’m not sure what your point is here.

Turns out I might be right after all.

With the bad buzz I don't see Jenkins coming back for a 3rd.

Ive already said that they likely were not expecting this to be the biggest box office hit. Remember this was randomly delayed by a year (much like BvS) even before Corona.

Wonder if they will still keep her on for the next Star Wars. Kennedy drops directors like flies.

But that doesn't follow from your point at all. They can't just keep delaying films. They will "get stale" and interfere with their releases next year. That's the simple fact. Delaying films again and again has detrimental effects especially since it's not exactly clear when the world will return to "normal". So, instead, WB made the decision to put it on HBO.

I wonder how Ghostbusters and Top Gun are going to be affected by the rona, Black Widow as well.

Again Really depends how much it was gonna make. My point is they figured this was never going to be a billion dollar movie anyway, so might as well use it now to max out HBO subscriptions.

Yeah its not clear if we will return completely to normal, but Tenet managed $362mill in slightly better times without a vaccine being rolled out. So normal or not, it goes without saying their other planned 2021 blockbuster releases will most likely do far better at the box office with the same simultaneous HBO/Theatre release.

IOW theyve opted to take an exceptionally huge loss with this one. And this one specifically. In fact the others might just break even with their theatrical release, and HBO subscriptions could be their profit.

I dont see any movie grossing a Billion dollars next year, but if the vaccine does help as much as scientists believe, then they will do just fine. Black Widow will easily make profit with its theatrical run IMO.

They "chose" this one because this was their first film on their docket. All the other films were intended to be released after WW even before the delays.

Sad for the casting, they are competent with material to work with

It's Batman v Superman all over again dont expect any kind of action until the first 80 minutes of the movie..

This is a JL and BVS situation all over again.
