Probably not, we can offset the need for crude oil with a combination of natural gas, wind and solar. Every electric car that replaces a gas one means that much less crude oil. Doesn't even have to be a very large percentage of cars being replaced. Oil-gas powered vehicles are here to stay for decades to come, but there can be fewer vehicles that are powered by it.

In fact, read not long ago a story of how Utah has now logged the highest amount of miles in public transport (buses) that are electric powered.
