Was Jesus a Socialist?

Many leftists who support socialism believe that Jesus also advocated for socialism. Is that really true though? As the video in link below points out, it is actually ludicrous to believe that.

dur

I thought he was a hippie.

Some Christians have this image of a Fire-and-Fury Jesus, I prefer the Caring-Loving-Socialist Jesus who fed the poor and needy, gave out free medical care and told people to love each other; not harm and kill.

Nah. Jesus had a Job.

I suspect Jesus was neither, he hung out with stoned prostitutes and hated the taxman, he also liked a party and would always supply the drink and a fish supper. He seems a non-political blue collar joe who has a not so secret second identity as the Son of God. He was also a pretty good magician, the David Copperfield of his day.

I've said this before. Jesus had red blood, thus he's a commie!

Wait...

...wait for it...

I prefer the image of the caring loving Jesus who advises me to be charitable of my own volition instead of suggesting I should have my money taken from me by force.

By force or by taxes, of which you also partake of in the benefits.

Taxes are backed by Force Rob. And there is a difference between taxes towards that which is held in common (ie. infrastructure, police, the army etc.) and that which is blatant redistribution. I'm fine with the existence of government as a necessary evil in some sense to protect rights and upholding public property. I'm not an anarchist.

In my view the ethical mandate behind the states infringement on people's right to liberty and property is the protection of people's rights from being more violated than they otherwise would be. I do not view the redistribution of wealth as the left does, or the enforcement of moral standards as some conservatives believe, to be valid uses of state force.

👆 Same here. Jesus never advocated for forced redistribution of wealth which is what socialism is.

I don't think feeding the needy and caring for the sick, the too young and too old is "blatant redistribution"; in fact, how a society treats it's young, elderly, sick and needy is a good reflection of how moral that society/our government is.

On topic, I think Jesus would agree with my above sentiments.

And then Jesus would probably point out how Robbie is in fact a a Big Hypocrite and really stick his nose in it.

Gotta love the Jay Man!!!

Redistribution of wealth prevents revolution like in France long ago or more recently Sudan. It's also morally important.

Never follow the Example set by The French!!!!

No, he was a Pure Communist.

Acts 4:32-35
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

I would agree with the latter part of your statement if you took the word government out of it. I'm not advocating that we just ignore poor people or that society ignores poor people. I'm one of those people who stops for homeless people on the side of the road (not that I really wanted to mention it, mentioning charity work always makes me really uncomfortable, even now I feel like kinda an ******* for bringing it up but I'm trying to make a point).

It's not that I disagree with the objective, it's that I disagree with the means.
