It was left out that Champion is in possession of the Power Gem in that scan, which allows him to dominate everyone in that same fashion. Superman would have been beaten up similarly in those circumstances under Slott's Power Gem portrayal.
Also, Kid Gladiator doesn't state what he thinks his father can do, but rather what he has seen him do. And the scene is one of seriousness, not hoopla.

Kid G is stating what he witnessed. No bragging at all. He is actually stating his lack of confidence in his father with regard to the fight.
