Smartest Villain in Movies

Thanos, wielding the Power Gem and Reality Gem, got overpowered by a plucky group of Avengers and only managed to achieve victory because said group of plucky Avengers were emotionally overreactive (and because later on another Avenger didn't go for his head). If Adrian Veidt had the Infinity Gauntlet, Dr. Strange and co. wouldn't have lasted two seconds.

There is a good case for Thanos due there being over 14 million ways he won. That's a lot of ways.

I'm unsure if anyone else, from the big screen, comes anywhere close to this effective. He was effective in pretty much all possibly scenarios except one where it was still a partial loss.

But the math, Thanos is by far the most effective at his plan execution. He is inevitable. It's hard to argue against it.

Ozymandias bested a god who had godlike powers, however. He can be a distant second.

In the end Thanos failed, while Ozy succeeded. The success that Thanos did have was usually due to brawn and not brains.

Plus if Thanos was truly smart he could have figured out a better use for the glove.

There is nothing saying that those millions of ways were anything other than, Thanos and his army overpower them.

Plus if Thanos was truly smart he could have figured out another way to use the glove to help the universe that didn't involve killing half of everything.

Like make resources regenerate, give planets the equivalent of healing factors etc etc etc

Ozy was able to invent advanced technology and also fool a god-like being that is capable of seeing the future. Thanos achieved ultimate power(through brute force, not cunning) and still ended up failing and getting erased from existence.

Ozy, the strongest and smartest human on the planet, ends up winning and chilling in his ice fortress.

One issue with that argument is that Thanos failing also hedged partly on outright luck. Joe Russo said in an interview that the mouse stepping on the button to release Ant-Man was essential for things to happen the way it did, and there were timelines where it didn't. It's really dumb IMO, and one of the weaker plot points of that film, but it is what it is.

One could argue it was also luck that Thor didn't decapitate Thanos at the end of Infinity War and instead went for the heart...

Someone targeting centre mass instead of the head and a mouse randomly stumbling across the exact button needed to activate a quantum tunnel, which kicked out the exact hero needed to start off a bunch of time travel shenanigans and a giant battle are two very different things.

Plus, that one comes straight from Russo himself. The mouse saved the universe.

Keyser Söze
Hannibal Lecter
The Joker (TDK)
Ozymandias

Fair enough, but if Thanos had been smart enough to wipe out the Avengers the mouse would have been irrelevant. So his own arrogance played a role in his defeat and some absurdly bad luck factored in as well(bad for him anyways).

Well, as I said, I am not a fan of it as a plot point. I felt like it's completely unnecessary and kind of silly.

Outside thread's parameters. We are discussing who's the smartest not who's the better fighter.

Thanos died twice. Sidious only died once.

Sidious died to dumber opposition and no time travel was necessary. He lost to the lowly rebels. We already know Thanos is the better fighter but to achieve a universal goal this opposition blows anything the emperor did out of the water.

Thanos succeeded. Ozy faced less opposition and his goal was about the planet not the universe. Are you retarded?

Universe>world. Opposition knew what Thanos was doing ozy had a few super powered foes in his world and he was still at the mercy of Manhattan. They were scared of nukes ffs. Pitiful universe for a pitiful guy. Thanos achieved his goal in IW.

His entire quest to erase half the universe in order to "save the universe" was USELESS. His plan was stupid from the get go.

Thanos is stupid.

Sorry Thanos fanboy, you are as dumb as your idol.

Sidious stands superior.
