If u take a cruise ship with the name princess in it you deserve whatever fate befalls you. Viruses, meteors, pirates.

Poorly quarantined and large amounts of "population mixing." This creates case studies for virologists and infectious disease doctors (infectologists). It gets us closer to a worst case scenario, gives us true infection rates, gives us true mortality rates, and gives us true asymptomatic rates.

In a very closed environments where people constantly interact with each other in the same areas, over and over, with no way to avoid each other (meaning, higher chance of being infected), we can measure worst case scenarios and then go from there (for the world, at large):

Diamond Princess:
Total People Onboard:.......................3,618
Number Infected:.............................696
Asymptomatic Cases (no Symptoms):.410
Deaths:..........................................6
Mortality Rate:................................0.1%

World Dream:
Total People Onboard:.......................3,800
Number Infected:.............................3
Asymptomatic Cases (no Symptoms):.Unknown
Deaths:..........................................0
Mortality Rate:................................0.0%

MS Westerdam:
Total People Onboard:.......................2,257
Number Infected:.............................0
Asymptomatic Cases (no Symptoms):.0
Deaths:...........................................0
Mortality Rate:.................................0.0%

Grand Princess:
Total People Onboard:......................~3,300
Number Infected:.............................21
Asymptomatic Cases (no Symptoms): Unknown
Deaths:..........................................2
Mortality Rate:................................0.06%

Yeah. We know it's a survivable virus, and yet with that meany people dying, it only makes Italy look bad. And god knows what's happened in countries that either suppressed their numbers, or just flat out don't report them.

True that. Also, I made a mistake: MS Westerdam had one confirmed case.

I read last week that the total infected is anywhere from 10 times to 100 times the actual figures with the asymptomatic cases being a majority of those missing ones. Of the portion missing between those total cases minus confirmed very sick cases, that portion are people who got mild-ish symptoms but didn't report anything, and got better.

But the cruise ship cases, with positive tests on the asymptomatic people, give us a clearer picture of true infection rates, and shows us what well-done quarantining can do for COVID-19 and the Flu in general.

Italy likely has far far more infections of COVID-19 than just the confirmed cases due to this.

The World Dream cruise ship staff did a fairly decent job of quarantining after the outbreak. That's why the cases stayed at 3 people even weeks later. No deaths. Likely, almost no person was un-exposed to to COVID-19.* But it takes repeated exposure and certain behaviors to get you infected.

*I should point out that they likely saved anywhere from 1-10 people's lives by doing such a good job. That's incredible if you think about it.

It is, and a part of me feels like this is going to end up being an indictment of the lack of proper medical care and education, both in the west and everywhere else.

Even here in Ireland, people's laziness has led to growing numbers of infections.

I seriously hope that if it gets to the point that a vacccine is needed and is developed, people will just take it and those prick anti-vaxxers won't raise their ugly heads.

This brings up another point: imagine being the idiot who infects your grandmother or grandfather due to poor hygiene and medical conscientiousness. And they die. 😐

"Sorry, guys, I killed grandpa. He had 10-20 more years left in him but due to my laziness and poor decision making, he got sick with COVID-19 and died a couple of decades early."

I was supposed to get an award from my company this week, but the show was cancelled, because of fears of the coronavirus. I want to talk to the manager.

Yep. And I think it's just sad how many people either aren't taking it seriously enough to practice basic hygeine, or are callous enough to do what I've read people are doing by going to gatherings like churches/mosques/bars/concerts etc.

Here, the government is refusing to cancel the St. Patrick's Day parade. You would think that would be sensible, but nope.

or the evil **** who does it for inheritance.

F*** vaccines and f*** those who try to force others to take them against their will. 👆

As I've said before, I will not submit to having some poison put into my body which will make me sick to supposedly stop me from getting sick. F*** that.

Nobody in the west is going to hold you down and make you take a vaccine.

That said, good luck being allowed around anyone that might be vulnerable to the shit you're carrying without severe consequences. People's health matters more than your feelings.

Usually I don't post in this forum, but this is incredibly stupid. This attitude is why certain diseases are making a come back. Diseases that we had all but eradicated. People are dying and getting sick because people are being aggressively stupid. People like you are literally why we live in a post truth society.

I know facebook and luminaries such as Jenny Mcarthy, Deeznuts233!, ietlaideveryday!!1, etc. might make compelling arguments such as: "No you! Yes they do! shut up! Vaccines are evil!" but science just doesn't agree with their stances. I mean, I can see why it is surprising that you can't trust randos on the net. They usually NEVER lie and are the epitome of trustworthy, but it is what is.

Also, I know it's a knock on your worldview to have it suggested that you can't trust random celebrities about it like the aforementioned Jenny M. It truly is surprising, because she should know right? What with all her education and degrees in the field to back up her assertions...wait...she doesn't have those does she? Who does? The people who claim vaccines are safe and save lives? Hmmmmm. But then again, why should we trust science? What has it done for us? I mean, it's not like it's responsible for the modern world or anything right?

Congrats on the award.

However, we now know your real life name and it is definitely Karen. 😄

Hmm, cancelling the parade? Is the flu and the COVID-19 stuff pretty bad there, this year? If either are "yes", they should cancel it. It would literally save lives.

You don't need science when you have Jebus. And that's what eThneo has. Same as Mike Pence. dur

Irish flu season tends to last until april or may, and we're already up to 33 confirmed cases of covid. If the parade goes ahead in Dublin, which is basically the Irish equivalent of Times Square on New Years' Eve, there's the issue that it tends to attract families for the most part as a kind of "day out to see the parade" kind of thing.

So young kids and grandparents, all packed together in windy, rainy irish weather, when there's a virus on the loose that your flu vaccine doesn't cover. It's not a recipe for success.

"WOLOLO!"

A student in one of the local elementary schools just tested positive for coronavirus.

Go f*** yourself, dude... and take your vaccines and shove them up your ass.

It's not stupid at all. What's stupid is people who have had negative personal experiences with vaccines (like me) still continuing to take them in the future knowing how dangerous they are. There have been billions of dollars paid out to victims of vaccine caused ailments and diseases. That is a fact and facts don't lie.

Sorry, but you're calling me "incredibly stupid" is not gonna make me suddenly turn pro-vaccine especially after my personal experiences with them when I was a kid. Nice try, but no dice.
