It isn't a strawman if I clarify myself in the same damn post. I literally said I wasn't accusing you of the thing you're saying was my strawman. You hopping up and down telling me "not to worry" wasn't needed either.

Your shitty, mean-spirited comments after didn't really help either.

Also, seriously, wtf is 'the crew'. You've got me at a loss there.

Does he know about the Omega F forum? 😱

That being said, this does have the potential to become a true epidemic IF the proper precautions and procedures aren't taken... But should it be causing mass-hysteria as of right now? Not imo. But 'new' outbreaks like this are always going to be hyper-inflated and overemphasized(especially when it starts spreading all over the world) -- like the Ebola craze from a few years back.

It's currently something I'm keeping a close eye on, but not something I'm too worried about, atm. It is definitely in the back of my head, though, but that's mainly because I deal with sick people all day long, lol.

I agree.

I mean dont get me wrong im washing my hands a lot nowadays in response to all this. But end of the day its just a virus and fact is even if/when I catch this theres like 1-2% chance of me personally dying from it.

That said, 1% of the population dying (mostly elders and already ill persons) as a result of this would be pretty catastrophic.

seriously DDM, clarify "the crew"... is "the crew", "hang outs" gang or something more mysterious? What are "the crews" primary motivations, goals etc? Are they affiliated to ISIS or some such? Should we fear "the crew"? I'm scared.

My guess is you think I'm here to mock you and be combative like Surtur and TheLoneRanger have been but I'm not. My only interest is to point out how much inappropriate hysteria there is around COVID-19.

How could anyone think I was being combative what kind of world is this

Inappropriate hysteria isn't the same thing as having a level of legitimate worry about a virus that has already killed people. You can be concerned about it without that meaning you think it's the next SARS.

Seems we have had our first death outside of the state of washington, this time california 🙁

You should be no more concerned about it than the common seasonal flu. This has been my point the entire time and I still haven't changed my position.

You're revealing your inner psychopath.

Except that I've been vaccinated for the flu, so yes, I am worried more about people living in built up areas that, even with that vaccination, might still be in danger of contracting it.

Yes, the amount of people that die from it isn't as high as it would be with a more dangerous disease. But people are still dying, and that's a cause for at least some concern, imo.

We are so gonna fight, irl! sneer

So "the crew" are the self designation for "hangouts gang". DDM is right he is not the crew, they are his crew and he is the Captain.

..and you're a sad pathetic troll who is seriously obsessed with incels. 👆

Okay, fair, so where's your concern for much bigger issues that kill far more people, issues that more directly (higher probability) affect you?

If you're concerned about COVID-19 for these reasons, then your concerns are properly meted and you're far more concerned about more important things. Right? Do you drive? Live in a city? Do you have any relatives over 70?

Yup, I'm a psychopath for discouraging hysteria - with facts- that will almost exclusively harm poor people.

Right, because of how well TheLoneRanger and I get along, you can tell he's one of my subordinates. Any day, now, I'll convince him to stop believing stupid shit like young earth and anti-vax stuff. I'm hoping to use my power over him to help him come out of the closet, as well: he's fabulous but still doesn't know it.

My concern is where it always was: Present and accounted for.

I don't drink because I only have one kidney. I don't smoke for a multitude of reasons. I don't drive for a whole bunch of reasons either, but if I did, i would assume that everyone else on the road is a ****ing idiot and be hyper-vigilant.

I have my vaccinations (bar HPV as I was told that it was pointless given my age and situation).

So yes, in general, I like to not leave anything to chance. So when a new virus comes along that can and has killed people, I do feel bad for those people. Do I get broken up about every stranger dying? No, of course not.

But I am annoyed, like I said, because China and some others would rather downplay it than take it seriously. Because we do take flu seriously. It's why you see ads on TV and have vaccinations for it. And it still kills people every year.

So when I asked this question:

If you're concerned about COVID-19 for these reasons, then your concerns are properly meted and you're far more concerned about more important things. Right?

It was actually spot on. You really do live carefully. Unless you're constantly walking around large cities attending events (concerts, conventions, etc.), you're at an extremely low risk of getting any flu or disease but at a much higher risk for getting struck by a car.

At your age, your mortality rate is near zero especially if you consider the mortality rates are vastly overblown (for reasons I've outlined).

You've taken the proper precautions against the seasonal flu (smart) which is where the much greater risk actually is. Based on isolated incidents (the Princess cruise ship, for example), COVID-19 is not as infectious as the seasonal flu and even if people test positive, about half remain asymptomatic. It's a very tame flu compared to even the seasonal flu. I think the real issue with COVID-19 is it completely caught virologists off guard and China did it's thing, like you stated.

Right, so assuming we agree (and I'm guessing we do, for the most part), where is the disagreement, exactly?
