He had plenty of warning since mid Dec 2019 and he chose to lie, downplay and spread disinformation instead because he thought that would personally help him for the coming election, the cascading effect of those lies is what we're seeing now.
If Trump hadn't played his games, this wouldn't be as bad as is it and the stock market wouldn't have tanked as hard. Trump figuratively f**ked himself by ignoring all the 'pesky' scientist, doctors and experts.

There's much more evidence to suggest that 3a/3b are true or at least entertain-able.

This is a lot. Still not as many as the seasonal flu, obviously. But that's a lot.
It's probably the 16th to 17th highest killer of people in Italy.
It also should be considered that Italy has a very old population, so a fair amount of people will already be immuno-compromised when they get the actual virus. The hope too, as that as more people are tested and we see how many mild cases there are, the death rate will seem lower.
Still an awful shame though. So much death. And the amount of people that are either panicking too much or too little really leaves little middle-ground, which is where I imagine most people should be.
