One who teaches in China weighs in on the pandemic:

, teaching in China since three decades
“Why does Beijing have so much sway with WHO, that they can successfully bar Taiwan from membership?”A good question. Beijing indeed has much control and influence over WHO. Let me summarize the situation briefly.
This is actually not the first case, but WHO was always like this, since its establishment. After WWII USA had much control over it, in the 1950’s several socialist countries quit as a protest. Even in the 1980’s USA could successfully pressure WHO, achieving that AIDS was only very slowly declared as an epidemic (it was in line with the US government’s interest). In the 2010’s during the African Ebola epidemic several African countries pressured WHO to postpone declaration of international emergency because the governments worried (correctly) that closing borders will affect their economy negatively. And exactly the same story is repeating with China right now: pressure from China was evidently the main reason why WHO delayed declaring it as a pandemic. (The disastrous mismanagement of Ebola was one reason why Tedros became the boss a few years ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the ongoing coronavirus story would be the reason of his removal at the end.)
Now China is powerful too, and it is evidently pressuring WHO very aggressively. WHO leadership is certainly corrupt — but to some extent it is possible to understand that they try to please China. Try to think yourself in their situation! What if the Party says, “OK, WHO hurt the feelings of 1.4 billion Chinese, so no WHO experts can enter Wuhan, we do not share any data”? They exactly did this in 2003, during the SARS epidemics, they did not allow WHO experts to enter Guangdong, the epicenter of the outbreak. It was only 18 years ago. This is the last thing the WHO wants: China locking them out, and therefore they only could guess and imagine what is happening there.
Therefore WHO must please the Party, they simply cannot afford the most populous country of the world quitting their system — it would only make things worse, MUCH worse. So they need to knee down. Sad story. Indeed WHO is completely dysfunctional, but unfortunately right now there is nothing better. This is why coronavirus is spreading so quickly, and this is why petty political power games are more important than disease prevention and control.

When it comes to this virus the deaths will always be on China. 2 weeks ago or even 2 weeks from now.
China is at fault, but how do you blame them for their "hey, this is nothing, we got this under control, we got it locked down, don't worry and go back to doing whatever like normal." antics early on while completely dismissing Trump doing similar up until about three weeks ago, when we've known about covid-19 since mid-late Dec 2019?

Yes, Hello Robtard.
A substantial number of Covid patients would have died this year as a cause of various other health issues. By Imperial Colleges data, around 2/3 of them.
If we count the remainder, another we potentially have another 50,000 people dying this year, if Fauci has the right estimate.
Now you claimed your concern was with american's dying.
I'm telling you about 3 million americans die per year. Does that number only just become unacceptable with another 50 K on top of it? What about if all cause deaths simply go down this year, like they have for 24 European counties in the study DDM mentioned?
Does someone, I.E - Trump get credit/blame if that happens.
[B]Before deaths argument:More people die from the flu. this covid-19 is nothing.
The thing is, because
1) over-sampling sick
2) underestimating asymptomatic cases
3) lack of virus testing
4) lack of anti-body testing
5) Countries reporting deaths that weren't caused by the Virus
We have more reason to believe the true case fatality rate, overall numbers of deaths and hospitalisations is lower, not higher than anything any epidemiologist estimates. Which is why said estimates tend to come with a massive, but often overlooked disclaimer regarding how their conclusion is subject to change pending on new data. It is still indeed possible that Covid 19 kills just as much as the Flu. But until the data is more complete, I won't be standing on victory hill like you are. Looking to score political points in an effort to blame the politicians you don't like.

Their actions spread a virus all around the globe.
Considering the World Health Organisation said "there was no evidence this virus was transmissible human to human" in January based off evidence from China tells you all you need to know regarding where blame is to be layed upon.
Didn't Trump institute a travel ban from China early other while other developed nations were also underestimating this theat?

Trump’s ban on China travel: his claims vs. the facts
Trump’s order was not solely his decision nor did it fully close the U.S. off to China -snip

and yet every single death is on China, not Trump. You won't be putting the blame on Trump here, sorry 🙂
If someone sets a fire next door, and I don't evacuate my house in a timely manner, I can't just blame the neighbor.
I feel like I shouldn't have to compare it that way, but here we are.

They melted down over Trump being correct about masks and medical equipment being stolen.
Trump was spreading unverified opinions of his own, during a time of national crisis, for no reason other than to stir the pot. Only instead of lying about the weather of his inaugural speech or citing voter fraud without evidence, he's attacking the medical community most at risk from this epidemic.
It shouldn't be rocket science; this is shitty president behavior and it hurts rather than helps.
