I don't think you should look at the attack as a planet exploding attack, look at it as an attack coming from one of the most powerful beings in Marvel who was amped 5 times over when it happened. And this was the second time we'd seen him survive him survive a sun eater explosion, the first time was before his death. The canonically weakest version of Superman, as he hadn't started digging into well of power yet. And he survived but was knocked out.

we'll have to agree to disagree. What I read was his dad telling his mom exactly what he couldn't survive to keep her from worrying about him coming up missing while fighting a group of people just as powerful as him. They even left the concept of what he was lying about ambiguous if you look at the panels were she said thanks for lying to her when she needed it. Superman in deep space hit by red sun is powerless and by all rights and purposes human.
