Mortal Kombat 2021

Scorpion’s Revenge was 9,000,000x better than this. Save your money, and watch that instead.

This was not good... I expect better.

.....

Oh yeah, this film didn't even have the tournament aspect of MK or the buildup to it. No boat, no island of Shang Tsung... They just had the bad guys try to invade earth prematurely, probably so the creators could avoid having to make all the set pieces.

Is it that bad?

I’ve also been told liu Knag is just there to be there, and that he adds nothing to the story.

Yes.

And pretty much. Liu Kang suffered because Cole Young was the main protagonist; Liu was just there to drive the film's narrative along. With the personality and motivation given to the OC, Liu was but another side character essentially and thus not given the presence or character onscreen like with Robin Shou's version.

That said, his fight with Kabal was alright, but even Scorpion's Revenge gave him more to do in the end, and he was robbed in the climax of that. None of the characters for the most part (except Sub-Zero) have a significant enough amount of screentime because of all the focus given to Cole.

Looks terrible.

Oh look. Here's me being right again.

Tried rewatching it. None of the fights are really even good enough to make it rewatchable. The best fight in the entire movie is Liu Kang Vs. Kano.

Apparently this movie is competing with Demon Slayer's domestic release for weekend revenue. Though from the sound of folks posting here I'll stick home for HBO Max for this one.

Wasn't the Scorpion vs Sub Zero fight supposed to be the big money attraction?

Yes, but Cole being there ruined even it/made Scorpion vs Sub-Zero not as good and lasting as it couldve been. Most of the problems are with the lead OC that no one asked for.

He literally ruined the movie by himself.

I noticed you put person, not actor. I see why now.

I would like a squeal if the acting and plot was good, those are for the most part the worst in this movie

Pretty bad.

it can't be worse than annihilation.

And that automatically makes this one good? It's not like both films can't be bad. MK 2021's about as low for me but for different reasons.

Like with comparing the Star Wars sequels to the prequels (or vice versa), saying "At least this isn't Annihilation" isn't a real defense.

Remember the song Mortal Kombat? And you knew it was time to fight or get your ass kicked. The original was much better but it could have used some of the drama from the newer version.

Then you had these preschoolers jumping up and down screaming Mortal Kombat

Yeah, it's quite bad.

And Liu Kang is pretty much just there to deliver exposition.

no. I've not seen this one yet, I just wanted to remind people of that disaster.

Definitely won’t watch now, especially if they did my boy Kang that bad.
