He's too young to not care about 40-70 years from now. Most of us will still be alive. So it's important to fix the crap that's happening, now.

Those things are not mutually exclusive. Everyone must live in the near-term. They have to secure the present before they can worry about the future. So you work toward advancing policies within the existing system now, while working toward systemic change in the future. The all-or-nothing now mindset of protest voters is why they have nothing and will continue to have nothing.

That didn't work for Hollywood. Obama went against them and opposed draconian internet policies that they wanted.

That only works if there's any chance of losing the vote.

If someone is guaranteed, why put in the effort to convince them over a swing vote?

There are no true swing voters, only people who claim no party affiliation, but reliably vote conservative or progressive every time.
