Adam's claim of most gun violance happening from legal gun owners, for example. I find it hard to believe carelessness, accidents, or murders among your average legal gun owning profile outweigh organized crime related violance, where murder is part of the culture.
I'd also guess hard statistics are all but impossible to access in underworld activities.

Edit - Oh, and, an 18 year old mother, home alone, shot and killed a deranged (?) man trying to break into her home. Almost the exact scenario you described actually happened, the man got killed, and the woman was not charged at all.

What's shitty about this scenario is she was so young and her husband had just died of cancer a few months prior. Talk about a tough few months of her life.
Edit 2 - No, I was wrong. I confused the stories. This is another story. A similar story happened where a deranged man in his 50s broke into a home and a young mother shot and killed him. It was also Oklahoma. lol
Edit 3 - Damn, I cannot find the story. I keep finding unrelated stories.
8 month pregnant lady shot and killed 1 of 2 home intruders that were pointing guns at and threatening the lives of the husband. The wife killed one of them with an AR-15 after they tried to take her 11 year old daughter and shot at her.
But I finally found the story I remembered. It was from 2009. The man was 53 and deranged. The lady was in her 50s, also. I confused the 2 stories.
