eg Germany hasn't erased the Nazi regime from their history books, but you won't see a Hitler statue in the middle of park or a military base named after Joseph Goebbels because they realize how it can affect some people.

The American colonists who fought for America's Independence were labelled "traitors" by the british empire. Today, they are heroes to the American people. And many of the great generals who fought for the South are considered heroes today by many Americans. Robert E. Lee was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, general in American history.
