The term corrupt is a bit reductive, but yes, of course. When your society has rampant inequality, it's pretty delusional to expect that democracy will reign. Politicians who aren't backed by wealth don't tend to stay in positions of power for long.
Term limits would help, but I doubt we'll ever get them.

I don't believe that everyone becomes corrupt, but the longer they stay, the more likely they're to compromise their morals.
It's also a matter of having fresh/younger people and not these 80-90 year old career politicians who don't know when to quit.
