Oh I had that theory based on him searching "pictures" of both men, but reading that about the dnc this morning prompted my post. When the F.B.I. finally accessed Crooks's electronic devices, agents could see that he had searched for images of Donald Trump as well as President Biden, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, and F.B.I. Director Christopher A. Wray.

Crooks also searched "major depressive disorder," as well as dates and places for appearances for both Biden and Trump. One of Trump's planned appearances happened to be about 50 miles from his house in Bethel Park.

That appears to be his motive: suicide by cop. He wanted to take a political figure down with him, so he would be remembered in infamy.

He is a lifelong conservative and registered Republican who largely researched Democratic targets, but Trump was in his backyard, so he was more convenient.

People who are suicidal are not rational, which explains why someone who supports Republicans would want to kill the Republican nominee: because then his name will be tied to Trump's for eternity.

...so...does this mean that if Biden had been speaking near Crooks' town instead of trump, he would have been shot at instead?

We can somewhat infer that, but we'll likely never know as it seems this guy didn't leave a manifesto, just a light footprint. Best to wait and see.
