I think you're right. The "critical temperature" explosion more closely matches a stored materials/chemicals explosion than things like IEDs. IEDs and bombs have a MUCH more violent (initial blast velocity) than this fire. It was a big explosion, yes. But it "expanded" slowly compared to some of the larger car bombs and IEDs.
The fact that Trump, the POTUS, supposed responsible leader of the free world, legit went on TV like a walking tabloid magazine and tried to imply this was a bomb, when every source and indication makes it clear it was an accidental chemical explosion, is exactly why Pedo Joe seems like a more competent candidate.

The fact people are dead and some still manage to make this about crying over something Trump did isn't really shocking, but it is unfortunate.
Should Trump have speculated? No, neither should the media have speculated over Russiagate for 3 years. Focus, this is not about Trump it is about Beirut.
It's being blamed on 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate

First you try to say two wrongs make a right, then you try to say it's wrong point out someone's wrong. You REALLY are afraid to admit that you backed the wrong horse four years ago.
Also, your little "Think of the victims" doesn't work here, because if Trump thought about the victims, he wouldn't be on the news massively embellishing how they died. So if you can critique me for apathy, I can critique Trump.

*yawn* Okay, you've said your piece on how the orange man is bad and earned your inevitable thumbs up. Moving on.
Kind of. He used ANFO which is different from straight Ammonium Nitrate.
Explosives are at their most efficient when the oxygen balance is as close to 0 as possible. Ammonium Nitrate is usually used to balance out other high explosives and usually needs a lot more quantity of it compared to the explosive used. The IRA used Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer to balance out
ANFO has an oxygen balance of -0.6 which is extremely close to zero anyway.
I absolutely detested doing ideal gas law and enthalpy calculations on this stuff during my undergrad.
Just gets worse:
Beirut blast: Tracing the explosives that tore the capital apart
So senior officials have known for over 6 years that this stuff was there and they knew it posed a danger too.
Hezbollah Will Not Escape Blame For Beirut
This op-ed is not saying that Hezbollah ordered some sort of attack, but rather that the reason the stuff wasn't removed from the city was Hezbollah's influence.
