Massive explosion in Beirut

They are saying it's ammonium nitrate. 2,750 tons of it.

They say a lot of things though.

is it easy to mix up the nitrate and the perchlorate?

I just find it strange that there would be a warehouse full of seized "illegal" fertilizer in a country where people are starving cos they can't grow enough food and imports are restricted due to sanctions.

Mind you, the place is massively corrupt so who knows.

It also looks extremely similar to the Pepcon explosion in terms of the colour of the blast cloud and that was Ammonium Perchlorate

why would they lie about it? cuz it's making them all look bad

I've seen some guys who work in mining and demo who use Ammonium Nitrate who say they get red clouds from it so it might be true. On the other hand there's tons of videos of the military destroying caches of Ammonium Nitrate in Iraq and Afghanistan and the explosions don't look similar.

We'll just need to wait for testing to confirm.

When they demo those caches, they are using explosives that have much higher initial detonation velocities than NH4NO3.

Yeah it could be inefficient deflagration which would be less likely in a controlled detonation.

I'd still like to read the report once the investigation is done.

Could be fake.

Now isn't the time for a regime change. They should suck it up and handle the crisis, then change the guard.

There is no way they could have even truly completed an investigation.
