Massive explosion in Beirut

Kinda sounds like Lebanon is being set up for a true dictatorship to take over. Crashing economy, food shortages, massive poverty and civil unrest. Just takes one "strong father figure" type to come in and make all the empty promises people want to hear.

I don't know. The official reasoning (or last I heard) of 2,750 tons of unstable chemicals left in neglect exploding is very possible, as similar has happened before in other parts of the world including America.

But Lebanese politics is highly corrupt and it's a hotbed area of the world, so it could have been intentional and set off to cause unrest and a regime change.

This op-ed is not saying that Hezbollah ordered some sort of attack, but rather that the reason the stuff wasn't removed from the city was Hezbollah's influence.

Like I said, even though it sounds conspiracy-tin-foil-hat, it kinda looks like Lebanon is being set up for a dictatorship take over, some strongman promising everything to the people and taking control. That can be Hezbollah.

I feel it's a legitimate theory as of now, not that I believe it, but others here have floated it.

The circumstances here are murky, but then again it has only been a week.

That's sucks on its own, but an explosion like that in a city, it's doubtful he's the only child victim.

Yup. Left-Wing Authoritarians always rise up in those scenarios and end up killing millions.

They come on the horse of equality, improvement, and "fixing the system." But if you look inside the horse it's just a left-authoritarian dictatorship that ends up with a mountain of dead bodies.
