Besides nth metal there's nothing that could hold him but 10th metal or an equivalent. We've seen him use his powers even from a stance like that to we know he had to be depowered or weakened.

It's called common sense, and logical assumption. Base Superman being capable of one-shotting a normal powered Barbatos wouldn't make any sense and would contradict a number of things, including what was already shown in the story. For example, besides previously struggling with their DM counterparts, you have when Barbatos easily defeated Superman and Wonder Woman and trapped both of them in an illusion.
