To be fair, I did say "at least". It comes down to proportionate response.

If she slapped/punched him, it's not always gonna deserve him going all Rocky Balboa on her. Now, if she had a knife, or a bottle, that would be different.

Yeah there is no need to beat the shit out of her over a punch, just respond in kind with a single full force punch.

Whether or not the relationship survives it is probably a safe bet she won't ever punch another guy without a valid reason.
