With nostalgia...you cannot win but it can be quite lucrative.I think my personal opinion is that I would prefer RE2 like remakes for games that utilize a very old way on gameplay. The original Resident Evil games controlled like shit so I was happy when they re-did the entire game using a much better perspective.. and RE2 Remake showed that you can still have a similar experience.
With games like Mass Effect series, there is nothing inherently wrong with how the gameplay works. There is a issues so its nice they are cleaning that stuff up...but seeing the game with 4K textures and upgrading lightening could be great and something I am willing to buy considering its one of my favourite gaming series (and argue best trilogy in game history).
For instance, I loved Dead Space and could play that game forever and it doesn't need a remake. But while playing RE8, I would love to see Dead Space with 4K textures, remove the jaggies and have some HDR/Ray tracing goodness and I would be the first person in line.....but I wouldn't want them to change anything.
(well maybe the annoying asteroid sequence)
They did not control like shit. How dare you.
But I do agree that past a certain point, there's no reason to remake a game to the extent RE2 was. Sure, look at the proposed RE4 one. Mechanically the game is not that old, and with a HD pack it looks really, really nice.
