MLB pulls out of Atlanta for All-Star game due to new voter ID law

Contrary to popular opinion, there is no evidence voter ID laws prevent black people from voting. On the contrary, a study from Yale University found the opposite, that voter ID laws have no statistically significant affect on voter turnout.

Source.

So what's the point?

The point is, Voter ID does not negatively affect people (which includes POC) when it comes to voting.

Here's the study in PDF.

So is this document a study from yale or Harvard or... fake news 😂

Automatically agree with truejedi based purely on antiquity.

So what is the point of voter id? All the sudden you want government oversight and bureaucracy? Why?

Yet everyone that wants to drive heads to the DMV and registers for a license.

Everyone that wants to fly needs an ID to check in?

Seriously, this is such a useless stance. Having an ID to vote is not racist. So the next time I head to dental and they ask me for ID to check me in, I’ll claim they are racist.

Voting is a civil right and should be made as accessible as possible.

There is no reason for voter id. Unnecessary expense.

Agreed, as long as it's secure.

Yeah, also agreed, which it is in the US, so adding additional hurdles is a bad move, imo.

I would like to see online voting be a thing, but I'm unsure of how we can make it more secure than in person voting,

Yeah, I read that a lot of experts are pretty worried about the prospects of its security. It would be cool though.

Do you need to have a special ID to vote in the United States or something? Or is a driver's license/health card/resident's card/passport acceptable?

I admit, I don't know a single person that does not have a form of photo ID.

I've seen numbers that say up to 11% of Americans don't have government issued photo IDs.

It's already a thing. 30 states allow some combination of voting by email, website, or fax for certain absentee voters. West Virginia straight up uses a phone app for it.

Many countries do similar things for those groups. Estonia actually has full online voting for every citizen, and some places in America have experimented with it too. Arizona even tried it way back in 2000 during the Democratic presidential primary, with no hacks detected.

Make absolutely no mistake, online voting will be the norm eventually.

Although they have the right to have their All-Star game wherever they choose, they're reasoning is faulty.

Voter ID is not racist.

It's common sense.

This is excellent news and their reasoning is not faulty 👆

MLB requires photo ID to pick up will call tickets.

I would presume because you have to prove who you are when you pick them up.

Same logic should apply to voting.

Apples to Oranges comparison, Klaw.
