The thing is races aren't races. They are categories, ideas constructed by minds communicating with other minds.
When one label, say Muslim, is interchangeable in one's discourse with another say, Arab, then we have to note that the 'ideological' label and 'racial' label are the same except for a single semantic point- namely that the key item being gestured towards is religion rather than ethnicity.
However, since what one says about one is true of the other that suggests the underlying sentiment towards the categories are the same- the word racist in such instances tends to take priority in discourse because that is the word usually considered most potent.
