Rob and Whirl didn't actually say as much, but their words imply they think the AR-15 caused the conflict.

But think about it. You see a man with a rifle at a rally. The gunman runs away.

Do you chase him down? Start a fight with him?

If Kyle got into a pissing contest while brandishing the thing and allowed it to escalate, I'd be more inclined to your logic. The fact is, Kyle didn't do any of that. They deliberately ambushed him.

The gun isn't a cause of that, and no amount of provocation really justified it.
