Nationalising energy companies, like nationalising the railways would be terrible ideas.

People would still be paying the taxes even if the services aren't being used.

Nah that's a Right wing talking point.

All nationalised in the UAE. And they don't even have to charge taxes.

Heck France have just done it recently. Only way to avoid extortionate prices at these times. Of course supply may still be any issue but any profits would belong to the tax payer.

It happened when the railways were nationalised. Ever heard of the British Rail sandwich meme? It looks like a miserable old piece of shit that's probably a few days old because nobody ****ing wants it. But, there are more reasons why nationalising them won't solve any problems, it's not going to change the variety of trains and railway lines and customers prices soared after 95. Mostly because people are employed to stop train hoppers.

You mean the trillionaire oil conglomerate tax haven? 🙄

Yes, all the profits. By which you mean, losses, right?

On a side-note, nationalisation might work in France as they have open borders with Germany, Italy and Spain.

Well they're not doing too well privatised either.

So what? Don't have to be on their scale now do we?

Point is there are other ways to do things than the typical pro-Capitalist talking points. Also I did mention France as well.

Because we're giving customers a massive discount? Either way the consumer wins and families can afford their energy bills at a time when they are skyrocketing.

Ticket sales have gone up since privatisation (I said sales, not prices 😉). Maintenance has improved. Security has improved. Even the sandwiches are better.

Nationalism isn't some kind of magic wand that solves everything. Even if nothing improved or worsened under renationalisation, there would be no point.

In fact, I think your only gripe is the prices. Well, you have to pay more for better quality.

You don't get better quality with soaring energy prices though.

Not saying Nationalise everything. But energy companies should be for sure. Not sure why anyone would argue that right now with what's happening. Like literally families are going to struggle feeding their kids due to extortionate prices.

We've also been wayyyy too slow to switch to Renewables. The technology has been there for decades, we've just made the effort to invest and switch over. Why? Because the Private energy companies resisted it.

You may be right. Now that we've gained control over our waters, we could use them for our citizens instead of the EU stopping us for global warming or whatever.

Sorry mate, I like the weather. awesome

But I do agree, we need to invest in renewable energy. Tidal and wave might be a good start.

We do nationalise them. We just sell them to other nation's nationalised railway operators.

but was this a result of being in the common market?

Are you asking if The British Government sold British Rail to The German Government and to the Italian Government and to the French Government before 1961?

Ad hominems aside, why don't I think she can win a general election? A lot of British people voted for Brexit and the others will see straight through her.
Her party know she can't win a general election, she can't even win against Liz Truss.

Is anyone ranking higher as the next likely PM yet?

Nah all scum in the Tory party. None of them are decent or honest actors.

It'll be Rishi Sunak. Because the Tories are in touch with the struggling common man during this unprecedented cost of living crisis and that's why they'll vote in the richest MP in the UK with a £700,000,000 fortune who, by his own admission in an interview, said he's never had any working class friends.

On the plus side would be our first coloured PM. Which means judging by what happened in the States the PM after him will be one racist SOB.

Nah it won't be Jeremy Corbyn 😜

Class is more a determiner than race. The very rich will be racist about those in the same class as them but they'd rather have someone who went to a Private school mostly regardless if race, except perhaps in the very top job.

Agreed 👆 missed this post somehow. Spot on!

Anyway, Liz Truss cares more about the struggles of intelligent people who went to comprehensive school because of Labour's bullshit of "we're all the same"

We're not. They're evil dirty stupid robbing bastards and they can **** off.

Nah, Liz Truss is a Tory, she cares only about herself.
