So which is it? Did people deny that obesity was an issue, or state that it is too late to do anything about it in the midst of the situation?

Maybe. That advice was not going to help them with this one though, was it?

People did both. That's what people in denial do. You want another example

Global warming isn't real

People aren't causing global warming

Oh well it's too late to do anything about it now

We've been in this pandemic for over 2 years. Plenty time for people to have done something about it. They went and did the opposite though. Obesity levels went up over the last 2 years.

If any single person held all of those positions simultaneously, then you might have an argument. But the person who claims it is too late to act does not deny that it is real. That is why it is a pointless observation.

The people who you describe as "freaking out" over the suggestion to lose weight, are not denying that obesity is a problem, only that the time to do something about it was years before this happened, and that it does not help the situation now.

It is like advocating for better sanitation and food handling practices in Chinese wet markets, like it is going to solve COVID-19 today. Sorry, dude, but that is closing the barn door after the horses have already bolted. It is too late for that.

You are not offering any useful advice, you are just using the opportunity to shame people for being fat. Literally who gives a shit? They chose the behaviors that led to them being obese, and in choosing those behaviors, they chose the consequences that come along with it. Let them eat cake.

So you support personal autonomy even if we all pay through a strain on public health services?

Is your view consistent with Anti-Vaxxers beliefs against cries that they harm the public health system?

What about those that claim words can have real consequence? Is it on us to live with the consequences of their words?

If you believe in "my self, my choice, you live with it" across the board, great.

Except that my analogy is exactly what people did. At first they denied that obesity had any correlation to making covid outcomes worse. Then when the evidence mounted up they pivoted to your "too late now" argument.

Again, we're more than 2 years in to this. People are still dying.

Tell me again how people couldn't help themselves in 2 years...

Fat people should be shamed. They smell, take up too much space, lazy, loud, annoying and stupid.

And this applies to ALL fat people, although some might not have all of those traits, there's certainly a correlation.

The woman jaden posted is a role model and should be respected and admired. You can tell she looks happier in the second photo.

Remember it was all just a bad dream, fatso

depression/anxiety/stress epidemic could have something to do with it. Trouble I'm having with your argument is not really fat shaming, but rather you seem to imply that fat people are all mobilized like programmed trumpers, playing a secret 4d chess gaslighting farce on everyone.

¡cuidado! that's been adopted as nazi code. honk honk = hh = heil hitler. Isn't that pathetic? clown

1. Yes, I agree. There's also even less help for mental health than there is for physical health. Particularly so in the US.

2. I have no idea what you're talking about with your 2nd point.

I do find it odd that people here seem perfectly willing to rip into people who make 1 particular shit decision regarding their health in relation to covid...Not getting vaccinated. God forbid anyone rips into people for making another shit decision regarding their health in relation to covid. You can argue that not being vaccinated puts other people at risk but being obese only puts yourself at risk but being obese puts you at risk of being infectious for longer thus potentially infecting more people. It puts you at risk of more severe symptoms thus taking up more medical resources that would then not be available to treat others.

getting vaccinated is a wee bit easier than losing 200 pounds. the disproportionate ire towards the unvaccinated, as well as those who refuse to simply wear a mask is warranted. It's a statement of "i wouldn't piss in your face if your beard was on fire". to attempt equalization of that level of carelessness with obesity shows obvious strong bias against fat people.

stop defending fat people

The level of inconsideration for their own and other people's health is the same and deserves the same treatment.

The Rightist can’t have that one. Denied.

Yeah its easy to say “Hey lose weight fattys”, but weight loss is a long process which requires time and discipline to get through it, and a lifetime of hard work to keep it off.

Sure, but I wonder why they got that way in the first place. Like, didn't they realise obesity is unhealthy and something to avoid? Or did they just simply not care about their health and how it could impact people around them?

It's like smoking. Everyone knows it's bad and unhealthy, but must do it only because they simply don't care about the consequences and want a little dopamine boost.

"they should have never decided to be obese in the first place reeeeeeee.".

who started this topic derailment anyway?

Your mum.

Bashar has a fat mum? 😂
