Finally saw yesterday.
Immense spectacle. Visuals and sound are unrivalled. Particularly the scenes on the Harrkonen world. They were easily the best aspect of it. Skarsgard, Bautista and Butler were all excellent.
The rest of it. Meh. As I've said before, the story is basic af and I really REALLY dislike the names for everything. Can't say I was impressed by Chalamet's acting. Even his big speech came across as unconvincing.
I stand by what I said before.
Sicario is still Villeneuve's best movie.

Both Dunes are a whole lot like Blade Runner 2049.
Which is a both a good thing and a bad thing.

It's been a long while since I saw Blade Runner 2049, but the production design perhaps shows similarities, however the storytelling to me is much better in Dune. I don't really care too much for the Blade Runner storytelling. Either one of them.
Anyway, Steven Spielberg has weighed in...
It’s one of the most brilliant science fiction films I’ve ever seen...
It would seem Dune 3 is happening. Though this article has minimal information...

The other film sounds more like a documentary or something. Is Villeneuve jealous of Nolan's Oppenheimer or something?
"tear from a desert spring" will continue to sour this film for me. That's actually for-real prophecy, as opposed to vague shit like "he will know your ways as of born to them". So basically Paul is Jesus exactly like he's not supposed to be. Very entertaining though. I enjoyed certain big changes. As long as it doesn't shove a cock in the ass of the mythos. Like unborn Alia was cool. Paul being the one to dispatch the Baron. That too was cool
But alas, the water of life has been reduced to magic potion, Paul is Jesus (though he really really really sees the injustice of it)
Oh and it's "PSYCHOPATHIC", not "psychotic". Apparently Irulan the sisterhood's brightest pupil is a stupid cvnt.
I liked that a lot of it was self fulling prophecy, anything Paul did or didn't do was "see, he Jeebuus!" to the most zealot of Fremen.
eg Paul knowing how to perfectly use a stillsuit, could have been that the kid just watched a lot of Fremen porn back on Caladan and some luck was involved.
I'm hyped for part 3.
Just saw it again. Lazy predestination writing. Chani just happens to be named after a prophesy specifically aimed at resurrecting dead Messiah. If her same was something else, eon's of planning would have fallen apart. But the sisterhood knew it would happen all along, exactly like that, because another perfectly lazy predestination plotline is being hailed as brilliant.
