You think the lasguns vs. shields controversial subject will be brought up or ignored again?

Perhaps it's a detail, but it'd be nice if they addressed it somehow.

I'm guessing screenwriters probably feel like it's too volatile a detail to include. Especially with religious fanatics in the mix.

They changed a few other things for the film, too, and it's fine. Probably better in fact.

This will crush it at awards season next year. Wouldn't surprise though if Disney pulled some shit.

^ I mean, I would think so, but I never can tell with the Academy Awards. Sometimes things get snubbed, especially if a character isn't gay or something.

The real kwisatz haderach

And what do you think of the lasguns/shields thing, Rob?

10/10

Amazing and masterful film
Its a lot to unpack, I will go rewatch it this weekend

I just got back from watching it, it's better than the first. This is a great adaptation, imo. Sucks balls we apparently have to wait 2+ years for part 3.

Unless I mistook a scene, the Freman only used their lasguns against unshielded ships. Against ships with shields, they used a rocket-like weapon.

The Fremen never used the lasguns against shields in the film. Only against unshielded vehicles.

I'll be seeing this tonight.

I'm very curious how they're going to handle Alia. I can't imagine book accurate Alia will play well with the general audience so I'm expecting big changes. Hopefully, she isn't cut entirely.

I enjoyed this immensely. I think Villeneuve has done a tremendous job with the series/lore, and delivered in a way that a scant few directors would have been capable of.

I'm sure some of the novel-purists could poke holes in it... But the film itself was really good. I would definitely rewatch in theaters.

Spoiler:
Don't expect too much on this front.

There's some changes and they're fine. Like Rabban's death is better in this film imo,

Spoiler:
gives another character some closure.

Though I wish they hadn't changed the

Spoiler:
Baron's death,
but it was still fine.

Alia is one of the wisest changes from the book. Very good to shift it as they did for the screen.

Remind me how Rabban died in the book?

As for the Baron I think it was a bit more satisfying than the book, and given the change to Alia it had to be changed, right?

Just to lighten the mood a little...

IIRC, he dies off panel. Nothing notable for him, just one of countless victims of the Freman jihad attack.

I didn't mind the change too much. He still died like the filthy animal he is.

I thought it was great. Better than the first.

My biggest issue was the pacing in the last act. Once Paul decides to go south, the film goes into overdrive and felt rushed. Otherwise, I had very little complaints.

If they make a third, I'm curious how they are going to handle that. By the end, Paul and Chani's relationship is completely different from the books and that's a fairly core part of Messiah. I actually find it kinda funny that the last shot of this film is pretty much the exact opposite of the last lines from the book.

I started watching this then I stopped

They took out one scene that was pivotal to the movie, when mohadib shows the desert people how to fight using the weirding way. They also excluded the moment when he found the biggest sand worm and rather than show it, they discussed it.

I plan to see this again in IMAX to gauge if the viewing experience does make a difference.

Though for any novel readers

Spoiler:
Does the jihad really pop of that quickly after Paul reaches the south? Maybe it was the pacing of the film but it feels like the Fremen wasted no time unleashing their wrath in comparison to the ambush raids earlier against the Harkonnen
