Because the US had no reason to continue.

They totally could have won on attrition, but any such "win" is too costly in terms of money and lives. Russia has no such restraint, they are fully invested in winning even if it takes 1000 years.

UK defence ministry: Kremlin may no longer fund Wagner Group

Britain's defence ministry said on Sunday there was a realistic possibility that Russia no longer funds the activities of the mercenary Wagner Group.

The defence ministry said in a daily bulletin the Russian state has acted against some other business interests of Wagner owner Yevgeny Prigozhin after he led a failed mutiny against the Russian army's top brass in June.

"If the Russian state no longer pays Wagner, the second most plausible paymasters are the Belarusian authorities," it said, adding that this would be a drain on Belarus' resources. -snip

Can the mighty Russia no longer pay for its own mercenary army and needs broke-ass Belarus to foot the bill? Hmmm...

Russia’s ruble hits its lowest level since early in the war. The central bank plans to step in

The Russian ruble on Monday reached its lowest value since the early weeks of the war in Ukraine as Moscow increases military spending and Western sanctions weigh on its energy exports. -snip

The Russian populace ready needs to rise up and replace Putin.

Wagner are probably going to Africa soon, I mean some are there now, but on mass.

Off to suppress the people for another African dictator.

They have been ivnvited bu the Niger Junta who want to work closely with Russia.

Putin probably didn't kill the Wagner guy, he had plenty of opportunity and decided he needed him alive for whatever reason (Maybe he's behind the African coups?)

Not saying Putin hasn't killed people, just that this doesn't add up as an inside job. Odds are he was taken out by one of our guys. (It's not like "our side" ever gave two shites about "collateral damage", they would totally murder regular civilians to get one guy)

Meanwhile Republicans want to pretend the Russians are the good guys, just peacefully trading arms with N Korea...

No one is saying that. 😂

Russia and North Korea being bad does not make Ukraine or the US good. When did the Democrats think the US is ever the "good guy"?

Republicans literally referred to Kim Jong Un, a dictator, as "a man who loves his people", while he starves them into submission.

Interesting that Putin has to go begging to North Korea for weapons. Is the mighty Russia running out of arms?

Russian strike kills at least 51 in north-east Ukraine

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the front line in the north-east only this week, because this region has been the focus of Russia's military offensive ever since the summer.

Last month, Russia said it had captured strategic heights near Kupiansk, just 30km (18 miles) to the east of Hroza.

There is no obvious reason why such a small village would come under attack, but it is within reach of that front line.

Ukraine recaptured Kupiansk and areas around it last autumn and Russian forces have spent the past few months trying to re-occupy it.

Six weeks ago Ukraine ordered civilians to be evacuated from Kupiansk because of Russian shelling.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that the front line between Kupiansk and Lyman further south was "one of the hottest areas" of the war.

The latest civilian deaths are an indication of that. -snip

Putin's praying that whomever the Republicans elect as speaker of the House, they'll do so on the promise that they won't budge on the "zero dollars" approach towards Ukraine funding.

I kind of think that this Ukraine situation might finally be what proves our system of government doesn't work. With two parties at polar opposites on absolutely everything, we can't sustain a commitment to anything at all. Funding the war in Ukraine for a year and a half and then pulling the plug, making that entire investment a waste, is madness. Our political stances makes us completely unreliable to any other nation or causes.

It is almost as if destabilizing the United States so Russia could annex Ukraine was Putin's entire goal. It really gets the noggin' joggin'.

The main plan was Trump winning in 2020 and the US not coming to Ukraine's aid via reason of "it's a territorial dispute".

Ukraine strikes Russian forces with US-made ATACMS for first time

Long-range guided missiles that were secretly shipped to Kyiv hit military assets in occupied regions

Ukraine has used long-range US ATACMS missiles that were secretly shipped to Kyiv to strike nine Russian military helicopters and airfields deep inside occupied territory, marking what Kremlin bloggers said was one of the most devastating bombardments of the war so far.

“Our agreements with President [Joe] Biden are being implemented. And very accurately. ATACMS have proven themselves,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirming the first use of the US-supplied weapon system against occupied regions of Ukraine earlier on Tuesday. -snip

One of many things most Republicans want to put a complete stop to in hopes of assisting Putin.

All of Kremlin is praying for their saivor Trump to come back into power. That's Putin's last resort. He will be happy to make a deal to let him absorb a part of Ukraine, proclaim himself a victor securing his rule and then attack again.

Is Trump their savior or more of Putin's lapdog?

Trump will verbally attack friend and foe alike, he does not care. Except for one man, Putin. Trump goes out of his way to make excuses for and defend him at all cost.

He is not Putin's puppet. Honestly never liked that this idea is being pushed. He is Russia's useful idiot. Someone Putin will effortlessly use to his advantage. Conservatives are already pushing the narrative that suits Putin perfectly. America first, decrease support for Ukraine, push for "peace". All while Russia's troll farms (that were not shut down with Prygozhin's murder) are helping stir shit and convince you people that there is no bigger threat to national security than black little mermaid and unisex toilets.

Spot on, except I think Trump is compromised in Moscow, like Boris Johnson almost certainly was after Boris's unsanctioned "diplomatic" mission.

Will Mike Johnson allow any additional funding to get Ukraine, or has Democrats voting to remove Kevin mcCarthy indirectly lead to Ukraine losing the war?
