Russian navy rehearses firing rockets at ships in Black Sea after warning to Ukraine

Russia's Defence Ministry said on Friday that its Black Sea Fleet had practised firing rockets at surface targets in a live fire exercise, two days after it warned that ships heading to Ukraine's Black Sea ports could be considered military targets.

Russia issued its warning earlier this week after it quit the Black Sea grain deal on Monday, revoking security guarantees for ships carrying Ukrainian grain. -snip

Should mark the merchant grain ships with US and UK flags, call Putin's bluff.

United Nations inspectors find mines around major nuclear plant in Ukraine

"Inspectors with a United Nations nuclear monitoring agency found several mines around the Zaporizhizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which is under Russian control." -snip

Explosives around a nuclear power plant, what could possibly go wrong.

Russia already let inspectors into one of their plants, why would they lay mines to keep them out now?

How do we know the mines weren't there before Russia took control?

Why does Russia fire on its own troops?

Why is Russia slaughtering the ethnic Russians in Ukraine and leaving them in mass graves when they're supposedly the reason Russia is waging war in Ukraine?

Russia does a lot of shit that doesn't make sense.

Medavac or whoever keeps saying Russia will ignite the world in nuclear fire if Ukraine wins.

The people here saying the US should not be involved because they would use nukes are dumb, Russia will use them regardless. If you don't want that risk you need to crush them with overwhelming force before they even get that chance.

The US has the power to do that. We could send in our best, or send in our black bag people to do it stealthily, either way we could end it in the time it takes me to post this.

cdtm talks shit.

Ukraine says woman detained in Zelensky assassination plot

Ukraine detained a Russian informant working to gather information on President Volodymyr Zelensky’s planned trip to Mykolaiv last week, part of an apparent assassination plot, the Secret Service of Ukraine announced Monday.

The informant, a Ukrainian woman, is in custody and being questioned.

Ukrainian officials said they “apprehended the traitor ‘red-handed’ when she was trying to pass intelligence” to Russian officials. -snip

I still think Zelensky is going to get assassinated down the road, even after Putin pulls out of Ukraine while declaring victory, he's going to hold a grudge over Zelensky embarrassing him on the world stage.

Rob, I don't mean to be rude but sometimes you are tl;dr too.

Just the first three lines of the story is posted...

Still tl;dr

CNN

Weeks into Ukraine’s highly anticipated counteroffensive, Western officials describe increasingly “sobering” assessments about Ukrainian forces’ ability to retake significant territory, four senior US and western officials briefed on the latest intelligence told CNN.

“They’re still going to see, for the next couple of weeks, if there is a chance of making some progress. But for them to really make progress that would change the balance of this conflict, I think, it’s extremely, highly unlikely,” a senior western diplomat told CNN

To the surprise of no one. Except maybe those who parroted MSM talking ooints about how Ukraine was totally winning and Russia was ready to collapse, as Rob has.

Even with all the money we're giving them defeat was inevitable. They were always nothing to NATO (Meaning US) but a means of weakening Russia's military and economy, if you believe ANYONE in the NATO hierarchy cares if every last Ukrainian dies I have a bridge to sell you.

Full context is important:

"A senior US official said the US recognizes the difficulties Ukrainian forces are facing, though retains hope for renewed progress.

“We all recognize this is going harder and slower than anyone would like – including the Ukrainians – but we still believe there’s time and space for them to be able make progress,” this official said." -snip

As noted before, this war will likely be decided by the US 2024 election. If/when Biden wins and Putin realizes that US arms/money isn't going away, he will pack up, leave and declare a mission success. If Biden loses and someone like Trump or DeSantis wins, US support will dry up in 2025 and Ukraine will be ****ed.

Which still moves the goal posts way back from where you said they were.

No, Russia is not losing. No, Ukraine is not making a grand counter offensive. Their odds of ANY progress are miniscule.

This was supposed to be a 2-4 week war with Russia steamrolling over Ukraine. What week are we on now? Getting flavours of the Russia-Afghanistan war?

That's not a positive towards Russia, no matter how much you spin it.

Who said it was supposed to be quick though?.

I never did. I DID say if Russia was playing for total annihilation this would be over, but they aren't. They're playing to control and absorb Ukraine.

You can't level everything and everyone, there would be nothing to conquer.

Think Vietnam. We "lost", but does anyone really believe we couldn't make them into a ghost state if we wanted to?

Russia did, a lot of countries said the same. That Ukraine would fall in month or less.

Yes, you did too, It was in the original Russia/Ukraine war thread that got accidentally deleted. You're lying again to save face.

Using a war the US had to pull out of (ie lost) as an example for your claim that Russia will win is stupid levels of stupid, even for you...

Because the US had no reason to continue.

They totally could have won on attrition, but any such "win" is too costly in terms of money and lives. Russia has no such restraint, they are fully invested in winning even if it takes 1000 years.
