both, they are virtually the same guy. and may i note that the wizards came to middle earth BECAUSE they want to keep the peace and to stop sauron from coming back to power.

gandalf the grey has more warmth, ganfalf the white has spent an equivilent of a thousand years away and his memory of his friends are distant, but by the end gangalf the grey begins to sneak back into the mix, becoming a little more affectionate and less distant.

Why Treebeard calls Gandalf as "young Gandalf"

We know that the ents are in Arda since the beggining of the creation and they are the older race there - pls forget thoughts and discussions about Tom Bombadil now 😄 - But Gandalf is a Maia who had an existance before the creation of middle-earth.

So, Why Treebeard calls young to and older person like Gandalf? Maybe a Tolkien mistake?

I guess that Treebeard only refers to Gandalf that way because although he had existed before Middle-Earth he didn't arrive in Middle-Earth, so therefore he never existed in Middle-Earth to the eyes of whom were older dwellers until he reached Arda.

I dont believe so. As the ents knew the presence of Tom Bombadil and of the Unduying Lands. They had saw the great battles since the beggibing of times and so, the presence of the Valar and of the Maia. I think they, especially Treebeard, should know the real identity of Gandalf. I think the only explanation is that Treebeard named everyone as "young" due to his profile as the ancient race of Middle-Earth...Maybe he is getting to old and losing is memories 🙂

Gandalf the WHITE was a younger spirit, much more lively and pro-active and energetic than Gandalf the GRAY.
He probably meant that Gandalf the white appears youngER than gandalf the gray

Gandalf had only just been reborn, so in this new life as gandalf the white, he was probably only a few days old
