He is writing Hellboy 2 right now. I also think he talked about doing another film besides Hellboy 2 so he can't do X3 right now.
Based on the information that JURY provided earlier I think these are the top three candidates as the new director:
1. David Goyer
2. Mark Steven Johnson
3. Josh Whedon
I personally would hate for Johnson to direct X3 but this is just how it seems so far.

As Joss Whedon had to leave the panel early, several questions in a row were lobbed at the writer. He is not the new director of X-Men 3 ... yet. "Nothing official has happened, although I did read something on the Internet [laughter]." He said that he'd love to do it, though. When asked if he'll be around for year 2 of Astonishing X-Men, Whedon commented that "getting through year one is where my head's at now." He also said that Kitty Pryde is his favorite member of the X-Men.

This thread and the X3 one are getting very similar, almost the same..... I just said: if it goes like this it will get merged
if it's sooooo hard to understand or you think you can do better than me, go tell Raz and then maybe you'll become a mod..... and when you do, I'll tell you what to do, so you can feel HOW ANNOYING it is.
