Its common sense that they would use Trask, but as we saw with X2 when they didn't use the character who originally started the Weapon X program its not always the case.
I haven't heard Anna say she wasn't going to return, I think utimately she will return though since she probably needs a film like this for her career after her last film flopped very badly.

i found this and it's pretty interesting. it seems beast will be having a large role as well
i knew bacic wouldn't be beast... but glad to hear beast will be in it... same goes for angel...

I just got some new word on X3. Gambit and Beast we can confirm. Not sure about Angel. Hugh, Famke, Ian, and Patrick are back as of today. This is in addition to the actors already optioned for X3.
Anna, Halle, and James are NOT signed yet, though by the end of the week, they should know what will happen with Anna Paquin.
Looks like besides Phoenix, the SENTINELS are in, including a character called Dr. Bolivar Trask.

yea. i prefer gambit..but i do want everyone to get their fav character on screen. i love to see any new mutants on the films.
My favorite was Gambit since i was a little kid cause he is just orginal to me with the trench coat and card throwing...it was a character that I enjoyed watching and reading about. I'm also a little familiar with Angel and for some reason he just talked too much for me and he was bland, but once he became Archangel I did enjoy him more. So I fall in the lines of seeing Gambit in the movie because I think people would be able to relate to that character more than Angel.

Avi Arad was at the Wizard World Los Angeles convention this past weekend for the FANTASTIC FOUR panel, and offered up some information on the status of X-MEN 3:
"We've got the best sotry for the third, and it's going to be very special" say Arad. Bryan is making SUPERMAN, and we'd love to have him do X-MEN (but that's) the way the business goes sometimes. X-MEN is bigger than any given director and there will be enormous amount of directors who would give their whatever to direct it.
We can announce a date for X3: May 22nd, 2006. There will be new characters...I think you will find it more exciting than one and two. It's a big idea and big story that everyone has been waiting for.
