If you are concerned about links, ask Storm or lil to update the stickies. The Qur'an sites should be placed in there as well.

😮 Sorry I thought this was allowed because it's the religon forum.

I'm not crucifying you...just making a suggestion.

We've had our share of pointless threads....

maybe you could save it by editing and posting a question....like..."Whats your knowledge of Heathenry" or "Should ancient religions still be in practice" or something that can keep on topic, but is more than advertising.

By the way you didnt half reply to the pôst quickly! Anyway its too late I sent a pm to lil apologising about putting the links down. I put them down because lil said she was interested. 🙁

Anyway I have turned the post into a question.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your thread. 😕

😆 I don't think you need to apoligize.

I'm just over-protective about this forum.

...and I tend to bring the hammer down hard and quickly, so...sorry if I upset you 🙂

Why don' t you start with a brief introduction on what Heathenry exactly involves? Some people will not be familiar with the concept.

Does Heathenry only relate to Norse mythology?

Norse or Germanic.

No. It's any religion that was out of the Pope or Patriarch of Constantinople's sphere of influence for 1 A.D. to about 1500ish A.D. when the Protestant churches broke off.

(This would include Wiccans, Greek, Norse/Viking, Roman, Mythologists, Muslims, and general pagans).

Storm disagress, but aren't those jsut a collection of religions that are not Christian?

Isn't that more just heathens and no Heathenry?

Oops. Ya, Storm's right.

ok. 😂

The term 'heathen' just means anyone who is non-Christian. But others use the term much more specifically, referring to those who follow a Norse or Germanic path.

It mainly deals with Norse mythology but it also maybe traced back to India.

As far as I know the people who were to become the Vikings can be traced back to India and you have some earlier incarnations of Norse gods in the book the Rig Vedas. In the Rig Vedas there is a God that looks alot like Thor

It can also deal with the Germanic period. This is a period where the would-be Vikings had not settled in Scandanvia and were living in what we call Germany today.

Celtic mythology can be a part of Heathenry as well because both the Vikings and the Celts were Indo-Europeans and therefore have similar cultures. Therefore by studying the Celts you can have a better undertsanding of the Vikings.

I think one striking aspect about Heathenry is that we do not worship the gods we honour them. We dont bow down to them because they are considered family. Often in Heathen Lore you hear about people who considered themselves to be related to Odin or the elves. I simply think this is similar to what you have in Christanity where human beings used to live in a spiritual plane like Paradise before coming to earth. I hope that make sense.

To be fair I dont think Heathenry is anti-christian either. The Vikings had no problems with Christanity and some actually wanted to put Jesus with the Northern gods, the only problem was that they were trying to force them to become Christian. So to be fair there is nothing wrong with adding different religons to Heathenry but obvoulsy you have to love Norse culture.

I hope I did it justice I could go on forever.....

Germanic is just the period before the Vikings settled in Scandanvia. There is not much difference for example Thor in the germanic period was called Donar and Odin was called Othin. Also in the Germanic period there was a time when Thor was the ruler of the gods.

It literaly means just some one who lives on the Heath LOL. Its just what modern adherents to the faith decided to call it. Heathenism is also called Asatru.

I think it was originaly mean't specifically for people who worshiped the Norse gods. It just so happens alot of them used to live on the 'heath', so people used to call them heathens, but instead of it being an indication of where you live it became an indication of what you believe.

I guess over time it was used for anybody who did not practice Christanity.

Anyway I dont think im very good at explaining things so maybe when lil is ready I can give her a link.

The thread is fine. Its not advertising or selling anything, so its cool.

Interesting sites Alfeheim 😊

Heathen was originally depicted as those that didn't believe as was accepted by the church, who was the state at that time...just as Barbarian was those who's language wasn't the same as was popular saying it sounded as "bar bar bar"....and thus calling anyone who couldn't be understood as Barbarian.
